Hi and welcome back. This time I thought we’d look at something a bit weird — a video/audio Cat 5 extender. Why would I want this? It passively wires RCA to an RJ45 connector so I can use Cat 5 cables with it.
What do I use this for? I have a bunch of old consoles and, frankly, the controllers don’t reach, and I don’t want to plug them in and unplug them all the time. So when I do want to use them, I bring them over to my coffee table, plug them into this, and now it’s wired. The wire goes down onto the floor — I’ll show you. It just runs like that across my floor and into my TV unit in this mess of cable spaghetti. In the back, somewhere around here, is the other end, and it plugs into my analog setup over here.
That’s how I use it. It works perfectly fine, it’s great. Obviously the longer the cable, the more noise added to the picture, but I’m not too fussy and it’s a whole lot of fun. It does work, and I’ll show you some output from my Super Nintendo now.
Here we have my Super Nintendo all wired up. The output’s going into the Cat 5 adapter. We’ll just power on the Super Nintendo and sure enough, the picture is on our TV. There you go — it works pretty well.
I’m pretty happy with this. Like I said, it lets me keep the system close to me. I think I got this on eBay or AliExpress — if I can find a link I’ll post it in the description. See you in the next one. Bye.
