Hello and welcome back. Today we’ll be looking at this Sony CD Walkman D-EJ100. I didn’t buy this β I found it in the trash. That’s right, someone threw this away. It was in my apartment building’s e-waste pile and I was like, dang, it’d be a shame if this went to waste, so I took it.
It’s really cool. It takes β you wouldn’t guess β CDs. I have a CD-R in here, plays just great. It runs on AA batteries. I have rechargeable eBL batteries β to be honest, these aren’t great. I highly recommend Eneloops; those seem to be a bit better. These kind of seem to wear out faster. But yeah, I’m really happy with it.
Forgot to put the disc in, so let’s put the disc in, give it a close. When you first put a disc in, it just reads it, makes sure “hey yeah, I can read discs,” and then it goes to sleep. If you want to play, you’ve got to hit play, and then it loads it up. It does remember, I think, the last track you played on a particular disc β I don’t know, it’s probably just the last disc you put in.
What else can it do? You can adjust the bass settings, not that I really care too much, shuffle, all that. And the display menu, you can change that as well. Very, very, very basic. It doesn’t do MP3s, it doesn’t do ATRAC, it doesn’t have controls. And again, it’s completely wired, so you’re going to need to grab yourself a set of earbuds. If you want to be period-appropriate, get some buds and just pop them in. If you want to be fun, you could maybe get a Bluetooth adapter and make this a Bluetooth CD player if you wanted.
I’m really happy with this, it’s great fun. Says it’s got 50 hours battery life. I haven’t drained it yet β probably only used about three or four. And if you ever wonder how the battery’s doing, there’s a little indicator right here.
So that’s the CD Walkman. I love it. I can fit it in my jean pockets β my pockets are quite big β but it’s great for what I like to call a “disconnected walk,” a walk where I don’t take my phone, just me, my wallet, my CD player, and I go for a little walk and I absolutely can’t connect to the outside world. It’s great. I also like to bring a digicam β totally hipster, and I like it.
If you’re like me, pick up a CD Walkman or any kind of portable CD player. They’re a little bit more robust than a cassette player, and it’s a lot easier to pop your music on them. Or maybe just get an MP3 player β but these are just kind of fun. Anyway, if you liked the video, subscribe, like, do all that. See you in the next one.
