Hey all, today we’re looking at this — an itty-bitty Zigbee repeater. It’s just a little USB dongle and you plug it into any wall outlet and you’ve got a Zigbee repeater. I figured let’s plug it in and see how well it works.
I’m going to put the device in pairing mode — actually, I think it’s already pairing. I didn’t have to push any buttons, it’s blinking. On the Zigbee2MQTT side I’m going to hit “permit all to join” and see if it shows up. Just like that it’s appeared, right here — it’s found it. So this is our repeater, and it basically just exposes link quality. That’s it — it’s a repeater. Let me plug it in somewhere a bit more useful than my coffee table and put it in its forever home.
I’ve plugged the repeater into the back of this smart clock, and let’s see if any of my bedroom devices connect to it. Let’s take a look at Zigbee2MQTT again. If you’re curious, this device I have in my bedroom is a temperature and moisture sensor for my bedroom plant. Sure enough, the bedroom repeater has shown up as a router inside Home Assistant, and you can see the bedroom plant sensor is connected to the bedroom repeater, which is also connected to the main coordinator. We also have a living room IR blaster that acts as a router and is connected to it too. So we have a bit of a mesh forming now — the network is becoming more robust. Pretty cool.
That about wraps up the video. This is the Zigbee repeater from Tuya. I’ll put a link in the description — it’s an affiliate link and I get a little commission if you pick one up. Thanks very much for watching. Don’t forget to like and subscribe, and I’ll see you next time. Bye.
