Hey all, it’s the holiday season and I thought we’d look at something from the past. This is a Nintendo catalog I picked up at probably a GameStop or EB Games โ€” I don’t know if the brand transition happened in 2002. This is the winter catalog: these are the things you’d be eyeing for Christmas in 2002. Let’s take a look.

We open to a table of contents. Nice tangerine GameCube, we got that. We’ve got a gamer couple gaming on their GameCube โ€” look what they’ve got in the background: a boom box and some books. She’s wearing her shoes on the couch, which is really upsetting me. First thing: Metroid Prime. I still haven’t played Metroid Prime; it’s been on my to-do list for a very long time. And we’ve got Wind Waker โ€” again, a game I never finished. I should really do that.

What else have we got here? Resident Evil Zero. Then Star Fox Adventures. And Super Mario Sunshine. Animal Crossing โ€” that was a time sink, I loved that game when I was growing up. Warrior World โ€” I rented this from Blockbuster. I don’t think I finished it, but it was fun. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, again something I rented. Vexx, I’ve never played that. Dragon’s Lair 3D, I didn’t even know they made that. Rugrats Royal Ransom โ€” wow, they’re still making Rugrats games. I guess the Rugrats were still kind of relevant in 2002; I think All Grown Up was a thing. Jimmy Neutron Boy Genius, another one I rented and didn’t get very far in. Monsters Inc.

We’ve got Crash, and โ€” oh โ€” a guy holding a WaveBird in a wild and wacky way while he plays Super Mario Sunshine. Very cool. Spyro, Star Wars Bounty Hunter. Now they’re cramming more titles on pages; we went from whole spreads to: all right, here’s some games. Frogger, Clone Wars, Defender, SpongeBob SquarePants: Revenge of the Flying Dutchman, Scooby-Doo: Night of 100 Frights. More stock photos of people playing GameCube, having the time of their lives โ€” no kids, just adults having a good time. Disney’s Extreme Skate Adventure, Sonic Mega Collection, 1080 Snowboarding, sports games, Tony Hawk Big Air. Yeah, I’m getting kind of bored with these. Nothing here I’ve ever played. Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters โ€” I think that game has a bit of a reputation. X-Men. Any of these games nostalgic for you? Because I’m starting to recognise most of these.

We’ve got NFL Blitz, TimeSplitters 2, Turok Evolution, Disney All-Stars โ€” Disney, Disney, Disney. More of these people really close to the screen โ€” like what’s going on there, why are you so close? Stop it, stop it. Okay, now we’re back to full spreads: Mario Party 4. I do have that one, I think โ€” or do I have five? I’m not sure. I think I have four. Super Monkey Ball 2 โ€” loved the original, never played the sequels for whatever reason. F-Zero. Back to full spreads, more sports games, car racing, more guys playing GameCube sitting on the floor. Missed a page.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, Phantasy Star Online โ€” ah, this is the RPG section. Okay, proper sports games. Not really my cup of tea, never really was. Wow, there’s a lot of sports games.

Game Boy Advance: look at this guy with his jacket, steal his look. Don’t mind if I do. Where is that? That’s a cool-looking bridge. He’s got a nice transparent Game Boy Advance in his hand. Metroid Fusion, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past / Four Swords, very cool. Kirby: Nightmare in Dreamland, Yoshi’s Island: Super Mario Advance 3 โ€” definitely have that. Hamtaro Ham-Ham, Tarzan, Contra, Bionicle, Frogger, Castlevania. More Jimmy Neutron, but now isometric โ€” hey, Jimbo. I love it. “Hey, let’s link up and play during our lunch break” โ€” that’s what’s going on over there, they’re having a time of their lives. Oh man, look at them, they’re really into whatever they’re playing. They’re loving it. They are linked up. Relationship goals right there. Nothing says I love you like being linked to your partner.

Let’s see โ€” Ghosts ’n Goblins, SpongeBob, Rocket Power, Game and Watch Gallery. More Tony Hawk sports. There they are, a couple again linked up having a time of their lives. Dragon Ball. Okay, they’ve got a group of people in a car and she’s driving โ€” it’s dark and she can’t see the screen but she doesn’t care, she’s having a great time. She’s wearing sunglasses, it’s dark in a car, she can’t see that screen. Golden Sun โ€” there we go, this is the RPG page. We’ve got just two RPGs: miscellaneous, and then Golden Sun: The Lost Age, which is a good game which I haven’t played, and some Dragon Ball Z game. And again, more couple goals โ€” they’ve got Game Boy Advances in their pockets and they’re holding hands. That’s so cute. This is what real love looks like: you’ve got your Game Boy Advance in your pocket and you’re holding hands. That’s true love.

Now we’re on to the e-Reader. I do have one of these. I still have some e-cards โ€” I thought it was the neatest thing back then. I was into the Pokemon cards, so I would have bought those. I think I only had Donkey Kong, Balloon Fight, and Pinball โ€” and I don’t have the full sets any more, they’ve gone scattered to the wind. I do still have some Animal Crossing e-cards.

GameCube accessories: we’ve got Spice โ€” I always wanted one of those, it’s so cool looking. Game Boy Advance accessories, no prices, just accessories. The component cable is only available through Nintendo โ€” you had to call them to get that, because, oh boy, most people didn’t have that. Link cable, broadband adapter, AC adapter, link cable, and an ad for Nintendo Power. A few more stock photos of people playing Game Boy Advance. This guy is not paying attention to the game โ€” he’s checking out her Game Boy Advance. He’s like, dang, we should link up tonight. This other guy’s not looking at the screen, he’s looking somewhere else, but he’s holding his Game Boy Advance, so that’s good.

More stock photos and, yeah โ€” Nintendo, very cool. This was the 2002 winter catalog. I hope you enjoyed this little look back; I’m feeling nostalgic.
