Hello and welcome to a quick unboxing of the ROG Ally. A quick look — it’s very shiny, very nice looking. I guess we’ll just get into it. Let’s give it a little cut here and see if we can get inside. That didn’t do anything. I don’t want to damage the packaging. This is really wrapped up tight. Starting from here — looks like a good weak spot. Just get that in there, there we go. All right, now we can get the plastic off.
I picked this up at JB Hi-Fi, which is an Australian store not unlike Best Buy. Oh, now I have to break the ASUS seal. We’ll just quickly slice that, and I think there’s one on the other side — we’ll slice that one too. Now it should be free to open. There we go. Some quick-start instructions saying first charge it, then turn it on. There are some QR codes here. Here’s the console — I’ll probably have to blur out the serial number. There it is, there I am.
What else do we get in the box? More paper, more serial numbers I’ll have to check. Strong factory smell. Apple products always seem to smell really nice for some reason, I don’t know why. And we have our USB charging brick with an Australian plug. That’s it — that’s all you get in the box. That pretty much wraps up the unboxing.
One more thing before we end the video. I plugged it into my dock while I set it up and got Windows going. The first thing when you get this is you get to configure Windows — how exciting. I just can’t help but comment: this thing has rebooted three times during setup. Not exactly what I would call intuitive. You have to go through Windows, Windows does some updates, then you give it a name, then… I’m still not done configuring Windows. I thought this would just be a simple unboxing, but it’s not optimal. It would be nice if you just configured it and went straight into the device. Come on, Microsoft — I should just be able to turn this thing on, set it up and go. I’m sure the device itself is fine. I’m sure I’m going to have a lot of fun with it. But holy schmoly, the Windows experience is hot garbage.
Still installing and setting things up — it’s going to take a while. Reopen app. Okay, finally we’re at the launcher. It took a while, but here we are. We finally made it.
